Margherita Marchioni - Italy

Margherita Marchioni explores the creative potential of waste materials. Most of her pieces involve the reinterpretation of the material, that is given a new and alternative life through transformation. Aesthetically, the works present the repetition of elements that go to form different basic patterns. Marchioni decontextualizes objects, whether plastic bottles, pencils, carrier bags or yoghurt tubs, so that they are given a new and different life through the artist's hands, to live as something else and to serve a different purpose. The lack of preciousness in the material itself is compensated for through a preciousness that comes from time; the time taken to collect, store and then transform the material by means of a process of metamorphosis. This goes to show that any discarded object can regain a new identity and be given a second chance through infinite creativity.
