Ingrid Schmidt - Switzerland

Ingrid Schmidt sees her work in the tradition of ancient techniques and the research to create textures surfaces in metal. It can be seen as a private statement against all these digital developments. Her work should remind us of our ancestor’s inventive genius and that these handcrafted efforts are to the benefits of our emotional side as human beings.
The Koreans original technique “Keum-Boo” is to fuse with a torch and a polished steel burnishes a thin gold thread on a sterling silver plate. The torch placed under the silver plate, and the polished steel burnishes tacks the thread down and then presses it over the surface fixing it permanently in place with a temperature of a round 500°C.
Ingrid Schmidt fuses light, knitted or crocheted wire structures on silver plates resulting in unique jewellery who keeps the delicacy of the fine structures. She master two completely different techniques to make narratives oeuvres.
Her art series shows variations of such fragility of interleaved 999 silver or gold wire textures fused on silver-plates. These variants are realized by modifying the following parameters: diameter of the wire, pressure of the roller during the various stages of the creation process and last but not least modifications due to Keum-boo technique itself.
